Wise people speak of ideas, common people speak of things, and mediocre people speak of people.

A lie never lives long enough to see old age.

Who better knows the truth is more capable of lying.

They are not only idle who do nothing, but they are idle also who might be better employed.

If someone tells a lie about you, do the opposite so that he may go by as a liar.

Worthless people love only to eat and drink; people of worth eat and drink only to live.

Crito, I owe a cock to Asclepius; will you remember to pay the debt?

In order to earn the friendship of a worthy person, it is necessary to develop in ourselves the admirable qualities found in that person.

Do not think evil thoughts of those who conduct evil, think only that they are misled.

Men do evil because good is unknown to them.

The greatest way to live with honor in this world is to be what we pretend to be.

I believe I have sufficient proof that I speak the truth: poverty!

If the dishonest man knew the advantage of being honest, he would be honest at least out of dishonesty.

No citizen has a right to be an amateur in the matter of physical training…what a disgrace it is for a man to grow old without ever seeing the beauty and strength of which his body is capable.

From small lies emerge great truths.

Thank not those faithful who praise all your words and actions, but those who kindly reprove your faults.

It is not living that matters, but living rightly.

I pray Thee, O God, that I may be beautiful within.

Give me beauty in the inward soul; may the outward and the inward man be at one.

If a man is proud of his wealth, he should not be praised until it is known how he employs it.

The three sieves…
One day, the old wise Socrates was sitting under a tree reading a book when all of the sudden a man runs up to him “Socrates I have to tell you something about your friend who…”

“Hold up” Socrates interrupts him” About the story you’re about to tell me, did you put it trough the three sieves?

A thing is only passed onto others after passing through the three sieves.

The first sieve is the one of truth, did you examine what you were about to   tell me if it is true?

Then have you used the second sieve, the sieve of good?

If someone said what you have to say about yourself would you think it    good?

Is it necessary to tell me what you’re so excited about, will it resolve or improve something, will it help someone?

Therefore, if it has not passed through the three sieves, bury and forget about it. It would be an intrigue serving only for poisoning the atmosphere and promotion dispute.
