The Virtues (1)

The man who in view of gain thinks of righteousness; who in the view of danger is prepared to give up his life; and who does not forget an old agreement however far back it extends – such a man may be reckoned a complete man.

Examine well your thoughts and if they become pure, your heart will as well.

The superior man puts loyalty and faithfulness above everything else; he has no friends who are morally inferior and when he makes mistakes he is not afraid of correcting them.

The wise man is ashamed of his flaws, but it not ashamed of correcting them.

The prodigal is arrogant and the avaricious petty. Pettiness is preferable to arrogance.

Virtue lies in the middle. He who overshoots it does not achieve any more than the unhappy deprived of reaching it.

To go beyond is as wrong as to fall short.

The cautious seldom err.

A man without constancy cannot be either a wizard or a doctor.

The superior man acts before he speaks, and afterwards speaks according to his action.

A thousand days is not enough to learn good will, but to learn evil, one hour is too much.

When you see a worthy person, endeavor to emulate him. When you see an unworthy person, examine your inner self.

To be able to practice five things everywhere under heaven constitutes perfect virtue. They are gravity, generosity of soul, sincerity, simplicity, and kindness.

Fine words and an insinuating appearance are seldom associated with a man of true virtues.

Without knowing the force of words it is impossible to know men.

Do not speak well of yourself to others because you will not convince them. Do not speak poorly either because they will judge you much worse than you really are.

Silence is a friend who will never betray

It is easier to overcome a bad habit today than tomorrow.

Humility is the basic fundamental of all virtues.

Sincerity is the beginning and end of all things, without sincerity nothing could be possible…
